Use Job Search Keywords to Land Your Next Gig
Use Job Search Keywords to Land Your Next GigUse Job Search Keywords to Land Your Next Gig319Looking for a way to crack the code when reading job descriptions? Look for the keywords When applying for jobs, its important to use job search keywords designed for that industry, and in particular, that specific job posting. The keywords used frequently within job descriptions will be the same words and phrases that employers are looking for in your job application.Grammarly analyzed 500 job postings with the top 100 most profitable companies in the United States and found specific language being used in job listings. These specific words could help you maximize your keyword usage and land your next gig.Check out these tips on job search keywordsfromGrammarly (and from , too) to make your job application land your next gigFocus on the job.Companies are looking for employees who want to build a career with their organization, who believe in their mission, and want to be a vibrant part of th eir company culture. When creating your application, choose keyword-rich words such as job and career rather than work. These words will catch the readers eye and show that you are looking for a long-term career instead of next months paycheck.Avoid keyword stuffing.Sure, youve been able to identify the keywords in the job description. That doesnt mean your application should be full of them, though. Keyword stuffing can actually have the opposite effect and make your application look questionable rather than qualified. Add in the keywords as they make sense in your titel letter and resume. That way, your application will appear mora natural and honest- and less like youre just trying to beat the applicant tracking system.Stick to the skills. If youre unsure of where to add in some keywords, the skills section is a great place to list them. That said, like the previous tip suggests, you dont want your skills to look like a keyword dumping ground. Make sure that your skills match the keywords, and make sure that youre as specific as possible to impress a potential employer.Highlight your experience.Sure, every section on your resume is important. However, employers tend to focus first on a candidates work experience. After all, it will be your past experience that theyll look at to determine your ability to perform the duties of the job youre applying for. Since the experience portion of your resume is so critical, it makes sense to add in some rich keywords into that section as well.Make it about the team.Smart companies truly care whether their employees can work well together. When writing your cover letter and resume, dont just focus on the tasks you have excelled at. Share team successes and how you worked within those teams. This is especially important for companies that have a strong company culture, and for remote businesses that rely on their workers ability to collaborate well virtually. You can use keywords like mentored, trained, or even accomplishe d to show what you and your former colleagues achieved together without using the overly clichd term team player.Dont dismiss your degree.Although some companies arent all that interested in candidates who have a college degree, many still require it. If you have a college degree, include it in your resume. (Note If its been some time since you graduated college, dont include the year of your graduation. That way, you can avoid possible age discrimination that can sometimes occur during the initial phase of screening job applicants.) While you certainly shouldnt make your degree the highlight of your job application, using the keyword degree can snag you some attention.Choose the right adjectives.During their search, the team at Grammarly found certain adjectives that companies frequently embed in their job postings. These adjectives and their synonyms can help your application stand out to an HR professional.StrongTechnicalResponsibleFunctionalStrategicExcellentCompetitiveCreativeE nergeticEffectiveSuccessfulUsing these adjectives can make your application stronger and more attractive to a potential employer.Wish you could talk through your job search and career questions with someone?SIGN UP FOR CAREER COACHINGJennifer Parris contributed to this post. This is a version of a post that was

Equine Pedigree Analyst Job Description
Equine Pedigree Analyst Job DescriptionEquine Pedigree Analyst Job DescriptionEquine pedigree analysts are advisors that plan breedings for the horses owned by their clients. Duties Equine pedigree analysts evaluate potential matings between specific sires and dams, presenting their clients with specific recommendations on how to improve the next generation of their bloodstock. Pedigree analysts meet with clients, research pedigrees, assess progeny reports, evaluate horses in person to gauge their physical characteristics and write reports that explain the reasons for their recommendations in detail. Pedigree analysts may interact regularly with clients including owners, broodmare managers, stallion managers, farm managers, and other industry professionals. A large part of their work is conducted in an office setting, though some traveling to view horses in person at the farm is not unusual. Career Options A large percentage of equine pedigree analyst positions are concerned with the analysis of horse involved in the Thoroughbred breeding industry, though there are certainly opportunities to be found working with other horse breeds as well. Many pedigree analysts do choose to specialize in one or two breeds in which they have expert knowledge. Pedigree analysts may work on a freelance basis, as part of a bloodstock agencys staff, for large breeding farms, or for pedigree analysis corporations (such as TrueNicks or Equineline). They may also write pedigree analysis books or submit articles for publication in industry journals. Education andTraining While no specific degree is required to secure a position as a pedigree analyst, most successful professionals in this field have extensive equine industry experience. A degree in genetics, biology, equine science, or animal science would add strength to a candidates resume. Computer skills are increasingly important, including word processing and database skills. Practical experience working with horses i s also a big plus for those seeking entry to this field, so equine internships may prove a solid form of training as well as provide a valuable way to network with industry professionals. Equine pedigree analysts must have a good working knowledge of equine breeding and genetics including areas such as line breeding, inbreeding, the heritability of desirable traits, pedigree nicks, prominent sire and dam lines, market trends, and successful progeny performance records. Pedigree analysts must also have a good eye for conformation, and be able to take into account the ways that certain physical traits from particular sire lines or broodmare families may be expressed in the resultant offspring. Salary Yearly compensation for equine pedigree analyst positions can vary greatly based on the specific industry in which an analyst works (i.e. racing or show breeding), the geographic area in which they work, years of experience, number of matings planned per breeding season, and their rep utation in the industry. The most successful analysts will be those that have developed a strong client base over the years, with a solid record of recommending pairings that result in foals able to perform at a high level. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not track pedigree analysts as an individual category in their salary surveys, but similar areas that they do track include categories for animal scientists and biological scientists. According to the latest information collected by the BLS salary survey, the median annual wage for all animal scientists was $58,250 in May of 2010. The lowest 10 percent of all animal scientists earned less than $33,980 per year, while the highest 10 percent of all animal scientists earned more than $117,150 per year. The BLS cites a similar median annual wage of $68,220 for all biological scientists, with earnings ranging from less than $38,780 for the lowest 10 percent in the field to more than $102,300 for the top 10 percent in the field. C areer Outlook Growth patterns for the field of equine pedigree analysis should fall between the growth rates of the similar occupational categories of animal scientists and biological scientists. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics employment survey, career opportunities for the category of animal scientists and other agricultural scientists are projected to grow at a rate of approximately 13 percent from 2010 to 2020. This rate of growth is slightly higher than the average rate for all positions monitored in the BLS employment survey. Employment for the category of all biological scientists is expected to grow at a much swifter rate of 21 percent over the saatkorn period, which represents a much higher rate than the average for all positions surveyed. Individuals with extensive experience and industry connections will continue to enjoy the best job prospects in this field.

Research These Maternity Pay Options Before Baby
Research These Maternity Pay Options Before BabyResearch These Maternity Pay Options Before BabyIf you live in the United States there is no law requiring employers to fund your maternity leave, unlike many other developed countries who do have such standard policies. This leaves many pregnant women in the U.S. in a financial bind when it comes to planning for maternity leave. There is much talk about changing this but for now, its just talk. When youre thinking about starting a family familiarize yourself with the different options for maternity pay. They can differ from company to company and state to state. To jump-start your research look into behauptung options What the Family and Medical Leave ActOffers While up to 12 weeks of family or parental leave is allowed under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which was instituted in 1993, theres no provision that this time off from work must be paid. FMLA essentially only allows you to take time off from work for birth or ad option purposes and protects you from losing your job for doing so. According to the National Partnership of Women and Families only four states, as of April 2016, offered a form of paid leave and they areCalifornia, New Jersey, and Rhode Island and in 2018 New York. Some states allow for short-term disability leave in lieu of a paid maternity leave. Youll want to check your states laws regarding the maternity pay you may be able to claim. What Your Companys Maternity Leave Policy Offers Its wise to make an appointment with your companys human resource department or check your employee handbook before becoming pregnant, as you may have to budget for unpaid maternity leave under FMLA. Many women who desire to take time off from work after giving birth will use a combination of short-term disabilityleave, maternity leave offered by the company and vacation time to care for a newborn baby before returning to work. If your employer provides maternity leave pay, youll want to clarify whether its full or partial pay. If maternity pay is available through your employer, and you desire to take advantage of FMLA, youll need to learn whether the six-week paid leave will run concurrently with the FMLA weeks. In other words, will your employer pay you for six weeks, and then only allow an additional six weeks off unpaid, not another 12 weeks? FMLA also doesnt state that you have to take your maternity leave in consecutive weeks or immediately after the birth of your child. You can take FMLA in full weeks or individual days- such as every Friday to shorten your work week- if your employer agrees. What Short-Term Disability PayOffers If you arent offered maternity pay but want to take advantage of short-term disability, learn about the percentage of your salary youre entitled to under state law, and the length of payment for childbirth. If you belong to a union in your industry, check its policy on short-term disability, which may allow for partial or full maternity pay for a certain number of weeks. There may be more than one avenue for you to pursue. If both the state in which you live and your employer offer short-term disability pay, you may be able to tap into both, especially if your employer only offers partial pay. Determinethe Length of Maternity Leave You Can Take Most physicians will recommend six weeks for a normal delivery and eight weeks for cesarean section. Many employers will offer six weeks of maternity pay. For this reason, many mothers feel its necessary to take these six weeks off after giving birth to care for the baby, adjust to motherhood and recuperate after giving birth. You may want to take more if you experiencepostpartumdepressionor encountered complications during childbirth or pregnancy. Talk to your friends and co-workers who you trust about their experiences with maternity leave. How did they manage maternity pay? Did they feel they took enough time, too much, or too little? And above all, leave your option s open, since its hard to know in advance exactly what youll need. Updated by Elizabeth McGrory
